Let's Talk About Community Safety
How do you feel about the overall safety of our community and what are your biggest concerns or worries?
What steps do you think our community should take to improve safety and security for everyone?
Are there specific spaces, areas, or neighbourhoods within your locality that you feel are particularly unsafe, and why?
How do you believe we can better communicate and collaborate as a community to address safety concerns?
Are there any specific safety initiatives or programs that you've seen implemented elsewhere that you think would be beneficial for our community?
Do you know who to report community safety concerns to? Do you have confidence in reporting your concerns?
Tell us what matters to you and share your ideas in the feedback box below
Feedback at the Cargill Centre café 24/02/2025
Personally - I have not heard of any trouble in Kilmacolm, but know there are issues in other areas.
Probably would call the local police initially to get advice If i had any concerns and would be directed to the right help available.
Feedback from Parklea Branching Out 23.01.2025
I feel my community overall is a safe place, my bigger concern is the volume of teenagers and young people using the busses to travel and causing hassle. Not everyone would feel safe walking along the road and meeting a group of teens behaving erratically.
- A curfew on the free bus travel for youngsters, more patrols driving through popular loitering areas.
- I don't think there's any unsafe areas but areas near shops seem to attract people.
- I know who to report safety concerns to but i have zero confidence that something will be done about it.
I don't really have any safety concerns at the moment but if i did my first port of call would be to phone Inverclyde Council (Coppermine Warm Spaces 11/02/25) PF
Drugs are a massive issue with people openly taking drugs in the street with no police action. Openly smoking cannabis walking past police officers and taking drugs in pubs in full view of all. Cocaine is a worse problem than alcohol and its devastating families.
the mental health system is failing as much of the crime is related to mental health and drugs which are all related.
Resources for police are at an all time low.
Whilst at Craigend on 05/12/2024 attendees raised concerns around the following:
- An increase in dog fouling around Quarriers Street.
- Cars driving at excessive speed on Sinclair Street.
I feel many young people feel entitled when out in the community and have little respect for the law or others in the community. Many struggle with boundaries and wish to get everything for no work.
Inverkip Church Warm Spaces 27/01/2025
Pavement outside Inverkip Hotel is extremely narrow can only walk single file and when buses and large vehicles drive by its quite frightening as they don't seem to slow down even though they are going through a village
Whilst at the Cargill Centre café on the 24/02/2025 an attendee made the following comments:
- In Kilmacolm, the Port Glasgow Road is very unsafe after work hours. Cars speed as if it were a motorway. There should be speed cameras across a few points in this road.
There should be more preventative work going on in our community as prevention is better than cure.

The crossing at George Road and Larkfield Road is very dangerous and would like to see some sort of improvements to make it safer (Coppermine Warm Spaces 11/02/25) PF
