Let's Talk About Community Safety

admin 120 comments

How do you feel about the overall safety of our community  and what are your biggest concerns or worries?

What steps do you think our community should take to improve safety and security for everyone?

Are there specific spaces, areas, or neighbourhoods within your locality that you feel are particularly unsafe, and why?

How do you believe we can better communicate and collaborate as a community to address safety concerns?

Are there any specific safety initiatives or programs that you've seen implemented elsewhere that you think would be beneficial for our community?

Do you know who to report community safety concerns to?  Do you have confidence in reporting your concerns?

Tell us what matters to you and share your ideas in the feedback box below

Langhouse Road needs something to discourage speeding cars. Children and older people coming out of the church or church hall could be knocked down by a driver and it is dangerous.
Parking on the main road is a nightmare - especially at school time. One way system should be explored. It wouldn't be difficult to implement. It was tried at an event some years ago and worked well.
Large groups of youths gather and are under-age drinking. They cause litter.
Wardens could perhaps help, but not everyone knows how to contact them. Perhaps their number could be added to the community noticeboards.

There is the annual fear of the build up to the local fireworks display and the mess that is left behind, and the impact this has on factor fees

A feeling of being unsafe standing at bus stops at night, mainly down to poor lighting

Drugs are a huge problem and the age of substance misuse has dropped to even primary school level. Drugs must be talked about more efficiently in each small local community and schools.

There should be an increase in the mobile CCTV vans in all areas where dealing is known. This will provide the police essential reports from the council.

            - My local community can be relatively safe in terms of inclusion although the condition of the area makes it feel unsafe, there should be something in place to identify depravation / issues within the community to avoid something like road accidents.
            - Community meetings could be moved online to help people address their concerns and issues.
            - Regarding safety concerns, my work implemented a board for repairs and possible timeframe. It would be good if something like this was implemented within the communities as i feel like there's too much uncertainty when it comes to repairs or concerns people address.
            - To be honest, I have a vague idea of who to address concerns to but some clarification would be good.

I live in a sheltered housing community and it feels safe and secure, I also have nice neighbours, so no concerns at all.

                      - I think Dubbs road shops / park teenagers are always hanging around here evenings and weekends as they have no where else to go.

                      - Open up a youth club that is open every night of the week, this would help promote activities such as street football, netball or craft clubs.

                      - I think there should be more advertisement in schools for activities
