Let's Talk About Community Safety
How do you feel about the overall safety of our community and what are your biggest concerns or worries?
What steps do you think our community should take to improve safety and security for everyone?
Are there specific spaces, areas, or neighbourhoods within your locality that you feel are particularly unsafe, and why?
How do you believe we can better communicate and collaborate as a community to address safety concerns?
Are there any specific safety initiatives or programs that you've seen implemented elsewhere that you think would be beneficial for our community?
Do you know who to report community safety concerns to? Do you have confidence in reporting your concerns?
Tell us what matters to you and share your ideas in the feedback box below
Parklea Branching Out 23rd Jan 25
- All areas should be lit and no dark areas for footfall.
- Self defence workshops
- Overall i feel safe in or around isolated areas
- There should be a safety course to teach ways to reduce unsafe behaviour / situations

I would like a higher warden presence in the community or even a higher police presence.
The lights at the Battery park are vital as this could be a large zone unlit.
There are to many off road bikes illegally driving on roads and pavements. They are using intimidation tactics and don't care about anyone around them. NB uploaded by RM
Poverty and crime are cyclical. Wont get better with people losing their jobs due to business taxes increased
AS - The building at the bottom of John Street at the junction with Shore Street is unsafe.
AS - The traffic in Gourock is bad, in particular around school pick up/drop off time. I believe Kirn Drive should become a one way system.

A lot of youth gather but i know how to report issues.
Church of the Nazarene 09/01/2025
- Make sure there is good lighting to feel safe walking around.
- There should be more cameras and patrols around the community especially around the community centre.
- I would know how to report concerns and would feel confident to do so if needed.
Feedback from participant at Recovery Cafe in Auchmountain Hall:
I feel safe in terms of violence and drugs, but crossing the road can be dangerous. There's not enough pedestrian crossings in residential areas and nobody stops to let you cross when there are no traffic lights.
We need more traffic lights or speed bumps in residential areas to save lives.
Traffic is far too fast on Regent Street and Bow Road/Inverkip Road.
There are good traffic calming measures in Edinburgh that Inverclyde could look at.
I don't know who to report concerns to, or whether I would report them if I did know who to.

Personally, I do not feel 'unsafe' in the village but i know some residents may count themselves as uncomfortable in certain circumstances. To help prevent this feeling there should be more lighting in dark public paths, community wardens to engage with groups of teenagers congregating at night, and actually addressing why they are on the street corners or outside the co-op.
