  • I'd like to see better school zone markers to slow the traffic down around Shawlands Primary School. Cars regularly exceed the safe 20 mph speed limit around the school. Better road markings to indicate one is entering a school zone would help alert drivers for this section of road, which is very busy at peak time. Perhaps this could be done by improved signage in that entire zone and better paint markings on the road. Could that section of the road have yellow zigzag paint markings across both lanes of traffic to highlight the school zone area, rather than just a no loading zone immediately outside the school? Further pedestrian school crossings painted on the road around the school could be put in place. At the moment, there is no painted pedestrian crossing at the top of the hill and though the Lollipop person helps in the morning, this crossing could do with an actual painted pedestrian crossing to help children get across the road safely at other times of the day. Thanks

    • Lack of cycle lane. Speeding cars. Speed limit on the road too high (Maryhill Road leading towards Bearsden). Illegally parked cars obstructing pavements and paths. Aggressive behaviour towards cyclists on the road.

      • Many thanks for your contribution. Would you be able to elaborate on what you mean by 'poor road conditions'?

        • All of the above really, everything could be improved, however the biggest improvement of all is just massively reducing the number of cars on the road/in and around the city centre, as quickly as possible, as everything else can then be geared towards infrastructure improvements across the board that benefit all other modes of transport.

          • Speeding vehicles are constantly an issue in Shawlands. Other issues include irresponsible parking which blocks kerbs and obscures vision, distracted driving due to phone use, very poor road quality which poses considerable dangers if you cycle. The road safety around Shawlands primary school is very poor. Driver behaviour is often reckless, and there is little provision for pedestrians to cross roads safely throughout the whole district. Minard road is a case in point: very difficult to cross, and lots of families need to cross it in order to reach the school. More pedestrian crossings please!

            • Many thanks for your contribution. Would you be able to tell us more about these negative encounters you experience on the roads?

              • Annoying that only one option can be chosen but "reckless driving" covers a multitude of sins: speeding, parking on double yellow lines, jumping traffic lights, eating and drinking while driving, using the phone. The move to penalise drivers more robustly will hopefully have some effect on some of them, but so many seem to think they own the road.

                • All of the above! Reckless, distracted driving and driving to avoid poor road conditions are all a significant danger when I'm cycling or walking

                  • All of the above, and the lack of ongoing enforcement. We have the right rules and regulations, but they are not consistently enforced. This leads to habits developing among inconsiderate drivers which endanger all, especically children. Enforce - speeds, parking on pavements, parking on double yellow lines

                    • Thankfully, research shows that only a small minority of driver's choose to speed, but that's enough to make vulnerable road users feel uncomfortable. As a matter of course, we liaise with the Scottish Safety Camera Partnership as well as Police Scotland to educate, engage and where necessary enforce speed limits to reduce collisions. Where we know speed related collisions occur, we consider engineering and enforcement measures such as traffic calming or speed cameras. The new city-wide 20mph speed limit will help address the concerns of local communities.
